Silly La Divine presents a unique, amber-hued take on the Belgian Golden Strong Ale, merging the style’s characteristic effervescence with deeper malt complexity. While the style often features neutral grain, this expression showcases rich caramel and toasted malt notes that provide a velvety foundation. Aromas of herbal hops and pear-like esters are complemented by intriguing hints of wood and a faint, smoky whisper. At 9.5% ABV, the alcohol is beautifully integrated, offering a rounded warmth that bolsters the palate. The experience culminates in a subtle bitterness, where lingering wood-like impressions meet a classic, dry Belgian finish.
Appearance. Deep amber to copper in color (10–14 SRM), diverging from the typical pale gold of the style. It supports a massive, rocky, off-white head with exceptional retention and provides characteristic Belgian lace on the glass as it recedes. Clarity is brilliant.
Aroma. High intensity. A complex bouquet of pear-like fruity esters and peppery phenols is layered over a rich, atypical base of toasted malts and caramel. Herbal and floral hop notes are present at a moderate level. Subtle, unique undertones of aged wood and a very faint smoky impression add significant depth.
Taste. The palate begins with the velvety sweetness of toasted malts and caramel, followed by the spicy, herbal snap of continental hops. Moderate bitterness provides structure, though it feels subtle against the potent malt backbone. Pear and pome fruit esters mingle with peppery alcohol. The finish is notably dry and long, leaving a lingering impression of fine wood, light smoke, and a clean alcoholic warmth.
Mouthfeel. Medium body, feeling lighter than the high gravity would suggest due to very high, effervescent carbonation. The texture is velvety and smooth. A noticeable, well-integrated alcoholic warmth is present throughout, providing a rounded sensation without any harsh or solventy notes.
