Spectre presents a robust sensory profile defined by its cask-conditioned heritage. This Foreign Extra Stout offers an intense sensory experience of heavily roasted grains and dark chocolate. On the nose, expectations are met with deep aromas of espresso and bittersweet cocoa, complemented by subtle earthy undertones and light dark-fruit esters. The palate follows suit, delivering a firm bitterness that balances the rich malt depth. Despite the accessible ABV for the style, it maintains a winter-warmer character with a lingering, roasty finish and a smooth, creamy texture typical of a well-handled cask ale, emphasizing a velvety, full-bodied presence.

Appearance. Opaque, very deep ebony to black in color (SRM 35-40). Pours with a thick, long-lasting tan head that leaves dense lacing on the glass.

Aroma. Moderate to high intensity of roasted malt, reminiscent of fresh coffee beans and dark chocolate. Subtle background notes of plum or dried fruit esters are present, alongside a faint, earthy hop character.

Taste. The initial impression is of rich roasted grain and unsweetened cocoa. Mid-palate reveals a firm hop bitterness that balances the malt depth. Finishes moderately dry with a clean, lingering roastiness and no harsh burnt acridity.

Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a remarkably smooth, creamy character from the cask conditioning. Carbonation is soft and moderate-low, providing a gentle, well-integrated warming sensation despite the lower gravity.
