Baba O'Hazy is a lush, modern Double IPA that delivers a complex sensory experience through a deliberate selection of hops. The combination of Idaho Gem and Hallertau Blanc drives a profile rich in tropical stone fruit and elegant white grape skins. A standout contribution from HBC 472 introduces intense coconut and subtle wood-like nuances that weave through the citrus-forward core. Despite its 8.4% strength, the beer remains highly approachable, balancing its fruity intensity with a clean, supportive malt backbone. Appearance. Deep gold to light orange (7-9 SRM) with a pronounced, persistent off-white head and thick lacing. Characteristically hazy to opaque, consistent with its juicy branding.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma featuring prominent notes of coconut, crushed white grapes, and tropical pineapple. Subtle citrus zest and a hint of melon emerge as it warms, supported by a low, neutral, grainy malt sweetness. Fermentation is clean with a very light fruity ester profile.
Taste. Initial wave of tropical fruit and coconut followed by sophisticated flavors of gooseberry and lime. Hop bitterness is firm but smooth, lacking any harshness. The malt provides a soft, bready foundation that balances the high hop load. Finishes medium-dry with a lingering resonance of tropical fruit and a clean, warming alcohol presence.
