Lupidoptera DIPA is a vibrant and unconventional Double IPA that pushes sensory boundaries. Infused with butterfly pea flowers, the beer presents a striking hazy purple hue that immediately captures attention. The triple dry-hop regimen featuring Mosaic Lupomax, Mosaic American Noble, and Strata T-90 pellets creates an explosive aromatic profile. Expect intense notes of ripe blueberry, passion fruit, and dank herbal resin. On the palate, the massive hop punch is balanced by a soft, supportive grain bill, delivering layers of tropical fruit and citrus. Despite its 8.8% ABV, the finish remains remarkably clean and dry, showcasing a modern, fruit-forward hop intensity without overwhelming bitterness.
Appearance. Distinctive deep violet to hazy purple color from the addition of butterfly pea flowers; opaque with a moderate-sized, persistent light lavender-tinted head and excellent lacing.
Aroma. Intense hop aroma characterized by prominent blueberry and tropical fruit notes from the Mosaic Lupomax and Mosaic American Noble additions, complemented by the strawberry and resinous dankness of Strata; supported by a neutral, lightly grainy malt background and clean fermentation profile.
Taste. Strong and complex hop flavors of berry, grapefruit, and passion fruit lead the palate. Bitterness is firm but smooth, avoiding harshness. A clean, soft malt character provides a light doughy support without adding heavy sweetness. The finish is dry to medium-dry with a lingering, fruit-forward hop aftertaste and a clean alcohol presence.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a smooth, velvety texture. Carbonation is moderate to medium-high. Features a restrained and well-integrated alcohol warmth that reflects its strength without being solventy; no hop-derived astringency.
