Sierra Nevada Celebration Fresh Hop IPA es una cerveza American India Pale Ale que viene elaborándose desde el invierno de 1981 de manera estacional. Celebration Ale es uno de los primeros ejemplos de una IPA de estilo americano y una de las pocas cervezas de estacionales hop-forward. Famosa por sus intensos aromas de cítricos y pináceos, Celebration es atrevida e intensa, elaborada con lúpulos Cascade, Centennial y Chinook
Ken Grossman, arífice de esta emblemática y referente cervecería americana, nació en el sur de California y aprendió a elaborar cerveza como homebrewer gracias al padre de un amigo, en 1970. Dos años después se mudó a la ciudad de Chico, al norte de California, donde abrió una tienda de suministros para homebrewers en 1976. En aquel momento las variedades de lúpulo en Estados Unidos eran más bien escasas, lo que le llevó en 1979 a realizar un gran viaje por todo el país para recopilar las diferentes variedades que se cultivaban en aquel momento y plantearse el comienzo de lo que hoy es Sierra Nevada Brewing. En sus comienzos tuvieron que fabricarse a mano ellos mismos todos los equipos necesarios para la elaboración de sus cervezas, por lo que Grossman aprendió de refrigeración y soldadura y formó la mayor parte de la nueva fábrica de cerveza a partir de equipos reutilizados de una lechería.
En 1980 arrancaron con su primera elaboración, una Stout, un estilo clásico inglés que quisieron relanzar. Pero la cerveza con la que realmente encandiló al público fue su gran Pale Ale, cargada de lúpulo fresco y que fue pionera en el craft cervecero americano y que aún hoy en día sigue siendo todo un icono. En 1983 elaboraron sus primeros lotes de la Barley Wine Big Foot, que por aquel entonces fue todo un atrevimiento con sus 10 grados de alcohol y sus 100 ibus de amargor. Ya en 1987 y debido al rápido crecimiento que estaban obteniendo; Ken compró una propiedad en Chico y comenzaron a construir lo que hoy en día es su fábrica de cerveza y su restaurante. Desde entonces todo han sido premios, reconocimientos, mejoras y ampliaciones: un auditorio con capacidad para 350 personas, instalación de cuatro pilas de combustible de hidrógeno para conseguir energía limpia, una tercera sala de cocción donde poder hacer investigaciones y producciones limitadas, un laboratorio de última generación, instalación de 10.000 paneles solares individuales que crean más de 1,5 megavatios de electricidad de corriente alterna….
Sierra Nevada Celebration Fresh Hop IPA
Vista: color ambarino con espuma cremosa y abundante. Olfato: en nariz desprende aromas a malta y caramelo, especias, hierba y pino junto con notas cítricas de pomelo y naranja. Gusto: en boca los sabores son equilibrados y evoluciona hacia una sensación amarga de cáscara de cítricos, fruta, enebro y canela y el final es ligeramente seco, astringente.
Sensación: cerveza de cuerpo medio, carbonatación muy viva, textura sedosa y extremadamente refrescante y bebible. Es una bocanada de frescor y amargor que acompaña muy bien una buena barbacoa o unas chuletillas al sarmiento.

Se elabora desde 1981 con lúpulos recolectados en 24 horas. Se la puede considerar la “madre” de todas las Fresh Hop IPAs o Harvest IPAs.
Sólo disponible de octubre a diciembre, es especial para celebrar el año nuevo.
