Sierra Nevada’s Cryo Fresh Torpedo is a vibrant American IPA that captures the essence of the harvest through the innovative use of YCH 301 Trial hops. These cryogenic wet hops deliver an explosive sensory experience, saturated with high-intensity aromas of freshly zested grapefruit and sweet Valencia orange. Underlying tropical layers of ripe mango and passion fruit drive the mid-palate, supported by a clean, lean malt backbone. It finishes crisp and decidedly bitter, showcasing the pure lupulin character with a bright, grassy freshness that evokes a walk through the hop fields during picking season.
Appearance. Deep gold to pale amber (8-12 SRM). Brilliant clarity with a dense, persistent white head that leaves significant lacing on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma featuring prominent grapefruit, orange peel, and resinous pine. Distinctive tropical notes of passion fruit and mango are layered over a low, clean, grainy malt base. Fermentation is clean with negligible esters.
Taste. Initial impression is hop-forward with intense citrus and tropical fruit flavors. Low, crackery malt supports a medium-high bitterness that is firm but not harsh. The YCH 301 Trial hops provide a saturated, fresh lupulin flavor. The finish is dry and crisp with a lingering, resinous, and fruity aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, slightly oily hop texture. Moderate-high carbonation provides a crisp bite. A very light, smooth alcohol warmth is present but well-integrated.
