This elegant Italian interpretation of a Blond Bière de Garde melds a rustic malt base featuring Rye malt with a sophisticated blend of fresh farmhouse ale and spontaneous barrel-aged components. Bright notes of Garganega grape must provide a vinous lift, while Italian-grown Cascade and Crystal hops offer subtle floral and citrus nuances. Despite its lower "Piccola" strength, it maintains a smooth, bready malt richness typical of the style, enhanced by eighteen months of wood maturation. The result is a complex, sessionable ale where wild funk meets refined grape character and a clean, dry finish.
Appearance. Pours a pale gold to light amber color (6–8 SRM) with a moderate, creamy white head that shows good retention and light lacing. Displays a slight haze consistent with its spontaneous blend and the protein content of the Rye malt.
Aroma. Moderate intensity with a prominent bready and biscuity malt richness, complemented by a light earthy spiciness from the Rye. Subtle floral and herbal hop notes from Crystal and a faint citrus touch from Cascade are present. A light vinous character from the Garganega grape must mingles with moderate fruity esters and a very soft, rustic funk from the spontaneous barrel-aged portion.
Taste. Initial impression is a smooth, bready malt sweetness that quickly transitions into a complex profile of biscuity grains and spicy rye. Hop flavor is low but presents as herbal and slightly citrusy. Low hop bitterness provides a malty balance. The Garganega grape must adds a sophisticated vinous layer, leading to a medium-dry finish that is clean and lacks any cloying sweetness.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light body with a smooth, slightly silky texture. Carbonation is moderate to high, providing a prickly but refreshing sensation. Alcohol warmth is very low, making it approachable and sessionable without any harshness.
