This collaboration between Side Project and Private Press presents a decadent interpretation of an English Barley Wine. Infused with Meadowfoam Honey and matured for 23 months in Willett 18 yr. bourbon barrels, the sensory profile is immensely rich. The honey imparts distinctive notes of toasted marshmallow and vanilla bean, which meld seamlessly with the base of deep caramel and toasty malts. Expect a complex tapestry of dark dried fruits, such as figs and dates, accented by the charred oak and spicy spirit character of the vintage bourbon wood. Its velvety, viscous texture and sophisticated alcohol warmth define it as a quintessential slow-sipping experience.
Appearance. Deep mahogany with brilliant ruby highlights and high viscosity visible as thick legs on the glass; low tan head with minimal retention.
Aroma. High intensity with very rich, strongly malty notes of toasty bread and dark caramel; prominent Willett bourbon character provides charred oak and vanilla, while Meadowfoam Honey adds unique marshmallow and floral sweetness alongside moderate dark fruit esters.
Taste. High malty sweetness featuring complex layers of biscuit and treacle; Meadowfoam Honey provides a creamy vanilla-floral flavor that balances the spicy Willett bourbon oak and dried plum esters. Bitterness is low, allowing a moderately sweet, vinous finish with significant, complex alcohol character and lingering wood tannin.
Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and exceptionally viscous with a chewy, velvety texture; low carbonation enhances the luscious weight, and a strong, smooth alcohol warmth is present without being harsh.
