English Barleywine 20 º
This monumental English Barleywine presents an opulent sensory journey, shaped by nearly three years of triple-barrel aging. The base beer’s deep toffee and rich caramel malt profile is transformed by Brazilian Amburana wood, contributing intoxicating aromas of cinnamon, gingerbread, and tonka bean. Influence from Willett Family Estate bourbon barrels adds layers of charred oak, vanilla, and a refined spirituous warmth. Expect a complex tapestry of dried figs and raisins, typical of an aged strong ale. Despite its staggering 20% ABV, the character remains velvety and integrated, offering a luxurious, slow-sipping experience defined by its immense depth and spice-forward finish.
Appearance. Dark mahogany to deep brown (SRM 22+) with ruby highlights. Viscous, oily legs are prominent on the glass. The head is a thin, tan collar with very low retention. Brilliant clarity resulting from thirty-two months of maturation.
Aroma. High intensity. Dominant Amburana spice notes of cinnamon and clove mingle with rich, toasty malt, caramel, and toffee. Heavy dark fruit esters of prune and black cherry. Strong bourbon presence with vanilla and toasted oak, complemented by a soft, vinous, and aged alcohol character.
Taste. Initial impression is an explosion of malty sweetness and exotic spice. Deep layers of molasses, toffee, and biscuit are punctuated by the distinct cinnamon and gingerbread notes of Amburana wood. Willett bourbon provides a spicy, oaky counterpoint. Hop bitterness is low, allowing the rich malt and spirit character to lead into a long, warming, and sweet finish with lingering dried fruit aftertastes.
Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and thick with a luscious, syrupy, and chewy texture. Carbonation is low. Significant, mounting alcohol warmth is present but remains smooth and well-integrated without harshness or astringency.
