Side Project Brewing Coexpressionalism Rouge Noir

A masterful collaboration between Side Project and de Garde, Coexpressionalism Rouge Noir is a Lambic-inspired Wild Ale showcasing the marriage of Missouri and Oregon terroir. Brewed with a traditional turbid wort and aged hops, it undergoes fermentation in a French Oak Foedre with a proprietary blend of house cultures. The addition of Oregon Red Raspberries and Oregon Black Raspberries imparts deep, concentrated berry notes. This complex ale balances rustic barnyard funk and earthy wet hay with bright, jammy fruit and soft oak tannins, finishing bone-dry with a lingering essence of wild fruit and a refined, wood-aged complexity.
Appearance. A vibrant, hazy deep ruby to magenta color with a dense, pink-tinted head that shows moderate retention and fine lacing.
Aroma. High intensity with complex layers of funky Brettanomyces, featuring notes of barnyard, aged leather, and dusty hay. These are punctuated by concentrated, jammy red and black raspberry aromas, supported by earthy aged hops and a subtle, spicy French oak character.
Taste. Sharp, bright raspberry flavors lead, followed by complex earthy funk and a light touch of stone fruit. The malt character is minimal and cracker-like, providing a lean foundation for the Oregon Red and Black Raspberries. It features a moderate fruit-driven tartness, very low bitterness, and a crisp, bone-dry finish with lingering berry skins and oak tannins.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light body with high, effervescent carbonation. A light, pleasant oak-derived tannin provides structural dryness, while the alcohol is exceptionally well-integrated with no harshness.

Oak Aged Missouri and Oregon Wild Ale with Red and Black Raspberries

Coexpressionalism is a collaboration brewed with our friend Trevor Rogers of de Garde Brewing in Tillamook Oregon. This Lambic-inspired beer expresses the house characteristics of both Side Project and de Garde by brewing a turbid wort with aged hops and fermenting it entirely in a French Oak Foedre with a blend of our cultures and our favorite Oregon Red and Black Raspberries. After aging, we naturally conditioned this blend until it was ready to be shared with you.
