Bubble Wrap (Blend #2) is a monumental collaboration that defines the modern decadent Imperial Stout. The sensory experience is led by an intense aromatic marriage of fresh ground cinnamon and rich roasted coffee, layered over a luscious foundation of toasted coconut flakes and creamy vanilla beans. The barrel-aged base provides deep structural notes of charred oak and dark chocolate, while the 15% alcohol presence is masterfully integrated as a smooth, noble warmth. This viscous, jet-black stout balances its significant residual sweetness with spicy cinnamon heat and roasted malt bitterness, resulting in a harmonious, dessert-like complexity that lingers long on the palate.
Appearance. Jet black and completely opaque. Pours with a thick, mocha-colored head that shows moderate retention and leaves oily legs on the glass, indicating high viscosity and alcohol content.
Aroma. High intensity with a complex blend of espresso-like roasted coffee, spicy cinnamon, and sweet toasted coconut. Deep layers of floral vanilla and dark chocolate are supported by dark fruit esters of prune and fig, with a noticeable but smooth bourbon-like alcohol character and charred oak.
Taste. An initial explosion of bittersweet chocolate and spicy cinnamon leads to a mid-palate of chewy coconut and creamy vanilla. The roasted malt character provides a firm bitterness that balances the high sweetness. Flavors of black licorice, dark-roasted coffee, and oak tannins emerge in a long, warming finish that remains velvety and never becomes harsh.
Mouthfeel. Very full-bodied and chewy with a luscious, velvety texture. Low carbonation enhances the beer's significant viscosity. A prominent, smooth alcohol warmth is present, consistent with its high strength, but it remains well-integrated.
