This monumental Imperial Stout emerges from an intricate blend of spirits barrels, having aged between 12 and 37 months in Weller, Blanton’s, Rittenhouse Rye, and Old Fitzgerald casks. The result is a viscous, decadent experience where the deep roast of Sump Coffee intertwines with the tropical warmth of toasted coconut and floral vanilla beans. A whisper of fresh ground cinnamon provides a subtle, spicy counterpoint to the rich, chocolatey base. At 14.5% ABV, it offers a sophisticated alcohol warmth that melds seamlessly with the charred oak and spicy rye notes, creating a harmonious, dessert-like intensity with remarkable depth.
Appearance. Jet black and opaque (SRM 40+). It pours with a thick, deep tan head of moderate retention that leaves oily legs on the glass, indicative of high viscosity and alcohol.
Aroma. High intensity with a complex blend of rich espresso, bittersweet chocolate, and heavy toasted coconut. Prominent barrel notes of vanilla, charred oak, and spicy rye whiskey are present. Subtile cinnamon and dark fruit esters like prune and fig meld with a smooth, warming alcohol presence.
Taste. An intense initial impression of dark chocolate and roasted malts followed by lush layers of toasted coconut and creamy vanilla. Sump Coffee provides an earthy, roasty depth that balances the residual sweetness. The Rittenhouse Rye barrels contribute a spicy grain character, while the bourbon casks add caramel and oak. It features a medium-high bitterness from roasted grains, finishing with a lingering warmth and a touch of cinnamon spice.
Mouthfeel. Full-bodied, thick, and chewy with a velvety, luscious texture. Carbonation is low to moderate. A significant but smooth alcohol warmth is present without being harsh or solventy.
