Anabasis (Blend #5) is a massive, barrel-aged English Barley Wine that showcases a masterful marriage of malt complexity and oak influence. Despite its American malt and hop origins, the English Ale yeast strain transforms the profile into a decadent tapestry of rich toffee and deep caramel. After 27 months in Blanton's and Weller 12yr barrels, the spirit character is profound, imparting luxurious vanilla and a sophisticated leathery backbone. Nuanced fruity hops provide a counterpoint to the intense sweetness, while the extended aging rounds out the 14% ABV into a smooth, velvety sipper with a lingering, vinous finish.
Appearance. Deep copper to mahogany (20-22 SRM) with ruby highlights. Low, tan head with minimal retention; significant viscosity is visible as legs on the glass. Brilliant clarity.
