Side Project Brewing 10 Year Barleywine

This luxurious English Barleywine presents a masterclass in depth and concentration. Born from a blend of single and double barrel-aged liquids, the extended maturation in Willett Family Estate Bourbon Barrels imparts profound layers of vanilla, toasted oak, and charred sugar. The sensory profile is dominated by a rich tapestry of English character, featuring decadent toffee, treacle, and dark dried fruits like figs and raisins. Despite its immense gravity, the integration is seamless, offering a velvety, viscous texture. Hints of leather and noble oxidation from the lengthy aging process provide a sophisticated, vinous complexity that lingers long into the warming, spirit-forward finish.
Appearance. Deep mahogany to dark copper with ruby highlights; brilliant clarity. Minimal off-white head with low retention, exhibiting thick, oily legs on the glass due to high viscosity and alcohol.
Aroma. High intensity. Intricate malt notes of caramel, toasted bread, and rich toffee are layered with dark fruit esters of plum and raisin. Pronounced bourbon influence from the Willett Family Estate Bourbon Barrels brings notes of vanilla and coconut. Hop aroma is very low, appearing only as a faint earthy background. Alcohol is noticeable but smooth and refined.
Taste. Massive, multi-layered malty sweetness featuring biscuit, burnt sugar, and intense caramel. Significant dried fruit character, including dates and figs, complements the bourbon-soaked oak and vanilla flavors. Hop bitterness is moderate-low, primarily serving to balance the massive residual sugars rather than provide a distinct hop flavor. The finish is long, complex, and warming with a vinous, sherry-like quality.
Mouthfeel. Very full-bodied, chewy, and luscious with a decadent, syrupy texture. Carbonation is low. Significant alcohol warmth is present but well-integrated, providing a cozy, glowing sensation without harshness or astringency.
