This vintage Imperial Stout presents a decadent sensory tapestry woven from a complex reiterated double mashing process. The aroma is a powerful surge of bittersweet chocolate and espresso, interlaced with the unmistakable charred oak and spicy vanilla notes of Tennessee Whisky barrels. Seven months of aging in Jack Daniel's casks imparts a refined structure, where the spirited warmth of the eleven percent alcohol is softened by velvety oak tannins. On the palate, deep layers of molasses and dark fruit collide with a robust roasty bitterness, finishing with a lingering, sophisticated warmth that highlights its prestigious barrel-aged heritage.
Appearance. Jet black and completely opaque. Pours with a dense, dark tan head that shows moderate retention and fine lacing. High viscosity is apparent through thick legs that cling to the glass upon swirling.
Aroma. High intensity aroma featuring a rich blend of dark chocolate, roasted coffee beans, and black licorice. Significant barrel influence provides notes of toasted oak, vanilla, and a distinct whisky character. Subtle esters of dried figs and raisins are present, alongside a smooth, clean alcohol warmth.
Taste. Intense initial impression of bittersweet cocoa and charred grain. The mid-palate reveals complex malt layers of caramel and molasses, supported by a firm hop bitterness and roasted astringency. Barrel aging contributes distinct flavors of spicy oak and Tennessee Whisky. The finish is long and warming, with a harmonious balance between sweet malt, roasted bitterness, and wood tannins.
Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and exceptionally chewy with a luscious, velvety texture. Carbonation is low to moderate, enhancing the beer's richness. A significant but smooth alcohol warmth is present throughout, providing a gentle glow without being sharp or solventy.
