Selfmade Brewery Mogwai
Mogwai is a vibrant Hazy IPA that showcases a tropical collision of Motueka, Simcoe, and Bru-1 hops. It pours with a characteristic luminous haze, releasing an intense, refreshing aroma dominated by Motueka-driven lime and zesty citrus. The palate is a lush landscape of stone and tropical fruits, where Bru-1 contributes distinct notes of ripe pineapple alongside waves of mango and passion fruit. Despite its 6.8% ABV, the beer remains remarkably drinkable with a soft, pillowy body and a restrained bitterness that allows the hop-derived juice character to shine through a clean, slightly bready malt finish.
Appearance. Straw to light amber (3-6 SRM) with a luminous, opaque haze. Features a thick, meringue-like white head with excellent retention and significant lacing.
Aroma. High intensity hop-forward bouquet featuring distinct lime zest, lemon, and bright citrus. Secondary notes of ripe pineapple and subtle tropical esters are supported by a clean, neutral, grainy malt backbone without any caramel or toast presence.
Taste. High fruity hop flavors of pineapple, mango, and passion fruit lead the palate. The bitterness is low to moderate and smooth, never sharp. Malt flavors are low and bready, providing a supportive base for the juicy hop expression. The finish is soft and off-dry with a lingering tropical aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a soft, pillowy, and smooth texture. Carbonation is moderate. Displays a light, well-integrated alcohol warmth without any harshness or astringency.
