Escape is a sophisticated Double IPA that masterfully balances a complex grain bill of Pilsner, wheat, and spelt malt with an expressive hop profile. The use of the Conan yeast strain amplifies a succulent fruitiness, providing a plush foundation for the dry-hop trio of Amarillo, Sabro, and Nelson Sauvin. Expect an explosion of ripe peach, creamy coconut, and bright white grape, punctuated by a soft, citrusy zest. Despite its potent 8% ABV, the beer remains remarkably drinkable, leaning into a juicy profile that eschews harsh bitterness for a refined, lingering hop saturation and a smooth, well-integrated finish.
Appearance. Deep gold to pale amber (7-9 SRM) with a slight, uniform haze characteristic of wheat and spelt additions. Supports a dense, persistent, off-white head that leaves intricate lacing as it recedes.
Aroma. High intensity hop-forward bouquet featuring distinct notes of tropical passionfruit, creamy coconut, and gooseberry-like white grape. Bright orange citrus mingles with prominent stone fruit esters of peach and apricot. A supportive, clean, grainy-sweet malt presence with subtle bready undertones provides a neutral backdrop.
Taste. Initial impression is a wave of lush tropical and stone fruit, dominated by peach, mango, and zesty grapefruit. The mid-palate reveals crushed grape and a hint of herbal coconut cream. The malt provides a soft, bready cushion without residual sweetness, allowing the firm, well-integrated bitterness to provide structure. Finishes medium-dry with a lingering aftertaste of citrus rind and tropical fruit.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, soft texture enhanced by the wheat and spelt proteins. Moderate carbonation provides a gentle lift. Alcohol warmth is exceptionally well-hidden, offering only a very faint, pleasant glow. No harshness or astringency.
