Currents presents as a vibrant, sensory-heavy Wild Specialty Beer, masterfully blending a sharp kettle-sour acidity with a massive fruit profile. The infusion of red and black currants, blueberry, and raspberry creates a deep, multi-layered berry complexity that dominates the experience. This intensity is beautifully complemented by the Hornindal Kveik yeast, which contributes tropical, stone-fruit esters that lift the heavy berry presence. The result is a lush, refreshing crusher that balances earthy skin tannins with a clean, lactic snap. It drinks like a saturated fruit juice while maintaining the structured fermentation character of a contemporary wild ale.
Appearance. Opaque, vibrant deep purple to beet-red color (SRM 30+). A dense, pink-tinted foam head provides moderate retention with light lacing. Distinctive haze from the heavy application of 235g/L fruit puree.
Aroma. High intensity aromatics of freshly crushed raspberries and earthy black currants. Pronounced lactic tartness blends with the tropical pineapple and honey-like esters of the Hornindal Kveik yeast. Very low malt aroma, appearing only as a faint, clean cracker note in the background. No hop aroma.
Taste. Sharp, clean initial acidity followed by a flood of tart red currant and jammy blueberry flavors. The raspberry provides a bright top note, while black currants add a slightly savory, earthy depth. Bitterness is nearly non-existent (sub-10 IBU). The Hornindal Kveik provides a subtle citrusy undercurrent that bridges the gap between the fruit sugars and the sour finish. Finishes dry and crisp with a lingering berry skin tang.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a surprisingly smooth, shake-like texture from the fruit solids. Moderate carbonation provides a refreshing prickle that cuts through the fruit density. Very low alcohol warmth at 6% ABV. Minimal tannin-driven astringency from the berry seeds and skins.
