This Hazy IPA, a collaboration between Schwarze Rose and Hitchcoq, delivers an intense sensory experience led by the dynamic pairing of Azacca and Strata hops. The profile opens with a vibrant burst of zesty grapefruit and sharp dry citrus, quickly transitioning into a lush tropical fruit medley of pineapple and mango. Underlying these bright notes is a classic touch of resinous pine that adds depth to the aromatic profile. Despite its bold hop intensity, the beer maintains the signature soft, smooth texture of the style, finishing surprisingly dry. It is a modern, refreshing ale that balances punchy New World hops with high drinkability and a crisp, clean exit.
Appearance. Pours a glowing, hazy pale straw to light gold (4 SRM) with a dense, meringue-like white head that shows excellent retention and leaves intricate lacing on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma featuring a complex blend of tropical mango, pineapple, and zesty grapefruit. A distinct resinous pine note provides a sharp counterpoint to the fruit. The malt presence is subtle, offering a clean, neutral graininess in the background with no toast or caramel. Fermentation is clean with very light stone fruit esters that complement the hop profile.
Taste. Explosive flavors of ripe tropical fruit and zesty citrus dominate the palate, mirroring the aroma. Azacca brings pineapple and mango, while Strata contributes layers of grapefruit and a subtle dank, piney edge. The bitterness is moderate but well-integrated, lacking any harshness or astringency. A light, bready malt backbone supports the hops without adding sweetness. The finish is notably dry and clean, leaving a lingering trail of citrus peel.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a remarkably smooth and soft texture. Carbonation is moderate, providing a gentle lift to the hop oils. There is a very faint, pleasant alcohol warmth consistent with its strength, but no astringency or raw starchiness.
