Schorschbräu Schorsch Eisbock 30%

Eisbock 30 º
Schorschbräu Schorsch Eisbock 30% is an extreme expression of the Eisbock style, pushing concentration to its limits through extensive freezing. This mahogany-hued liquid presents an intense sensory profile dominated by a rich, viscous malt backbone. Deep layers of toffee and Maillard-driven toastiness are interwoven with decadent notes of plum and rumtopf—a traditional fruit-in-rum preserve. At 30% ABV, the alcohol is profound and spirit-like, providing a substantial, warming presence that suggests port wine or aged sherry as it breathes. This is a contemplative, full-bodied experience where the concentrated sweetness is balanced not by hops, but by the sheer drying power of its massive alcohol content.
Appearance. Deep, dark mahogany to near-black in color (30-40+ SRM) with brilliant ruby highlights when held to light. Foam is minimal to non-existent due to the extreme alcohol concentration, though a brief, fine-textured ivory rim may appear. The liquid exhibits thick, prominent legs on the glass, indicative of its high viscosity and gravity.
Aroma. High intensity and deeply complex. Dominated by rich malt characters of toffee, dark caramel, and toasted bread crusts. Pronounced dark fruit esters of plum and raisin merge with a distinct, spirit-like alcohol aroma reminiscent of rum or fine brandy. No hop aroma is present, allowing the clean but fruity fermentation profile to shine.
Taste. The initial impression is one of intense malt sweetness and significant alcohol warmth. Rich flavors of toffee and Maillard-derived crustiness are prevalent, supported by a 'rumtopf' fruitiness involving plums and dark grapes. Hop flavor is absent, and bitterness is low, just enough to prevent a cloying sensation against the massive malt. The finish is long and warming with a lingering malt-driven sweetness that transitions into a dry, sherry-like alcoholic heat.
Mouthfeel. Extremely full-bodied and viscous, coating the palate with a syrupy, silky texture. Carbonation is very low, bordering on still. The alcohol warmth is intense and unavoidable but remains smooth rather than sharp or solventy, providing a deep, chest-warming sensation without harsh astringency.
