Schneeeule Irmgard is a brilliant, highly expressive interpretation of a traditional Berliner Weisse, elevated by a complex botanical infusion. A vibrant medley of zesty lemon peel, orange peel, and tart pomegranate peel intertwines seamlessly with a sharp, clean lactic acidity. Underneath, a distinctively spicy, warm ginger note lends an invigorating, earthy depth that pairs beautifully with the rustic, wild character of the brewery's signature Brettanomyces yeast. Highly effervescent and incredibly refreshing, this low-alcohol wheat beer balances its bready malt core with a complex, bone-dry finish.
Appearance. Very pale straw with a slight, yeast-induced haze. Highly effervescent with a large, dense, snowy-white head that has poor retention, leaving minimal lacing.
Aroma. High intensity of clean, sharp lactic sourness, intricately woven with fresh, spicy ginger and citrusy lemon and orange peel. A soft background of raw dough and sourdough wheat malt supports the spices, accompanied by a distinct, earthy Brettanomyces funk and subtle pomegranate fruitiness. No hop aroma.
Taste. Begins with a dominant, clean lactic acidity that immediately melds with a prominent, warm ginger spice and bright citrus peel notes. A gentle, bready wheat malt flavor emerges briefly to support the sourness. Finishes extremely dry and crisp with lingering ginger warmth and earthy Brettanomyces notes. Hop bitterness is completely undetectable.
Mouthfeel. Light-bodied but never watery, marked by very high, prickly carbonation and a crisp, mouth-watering acidity. There is no alcohol warmth, though the ginger provides a mild, refreshing physical tingle on the palate.
