Schneeeule Blaue Blumenweiße is an elegant, historically-informed Berliner Weisse that elevates the classic lactic sharpness with a delicate botanical infusion of lavender and cornflower. The sensory experience begins with a crisp, sourdough-like wheat backbone, quickly overtaken by a bright, lemony acidity. Lavender provides a sophisticated floral perfume that intertwines with the fruity esters of the house Brettanomyces strain, while cornflower adds a subtle, earthy nuance to the bouquet. This pale, effervescent ale remains impeccably dry and refreshing, balancing its tart profile with a soft, bready malt character and a floral finish that lingers with a clean, puckering zest.
Appearance. Very pale straw (2 SRM). Noticeably hazy with intense, fine-bubbled effervescence. Pours with a large, dense white head that has poor retention, typical of the style.
Aroma. High intensity of sharp, lactic sourness and lemon zest. A distinct floral bouquet of lavender dominates the secondary notes, complemented by a light, earthy herbal scent from cornflower. The malt presents as raw bread dough and fresh sourdough. No hop aroma.
Taste. Dominant clean lactic acidity with a bright, tart apple and citrus fruitiness. The mid-palate reveals a grainy, bready wheat flavor that supports the infusion of floral lavender. Bitterness is undetectable; the balance is driven entirely by acidity. Finishes bone-dry with a lingering floral and tart lemon aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Light body but not watery. Very high carbonation creates a lively, spritzy mouthfeel. Crisp acidity provides a refreshing, clean bite. No alcohol warmth.
