for classic Märzen, the malt of the special edition is kilned over an open beech wood fire, which gives it the typical and by smokebeer lovers sought after flavor of Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier.

This unfiltered special edition commemorates the long tradition of our Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier: On July 23rd 1635 the first smoke-free malt drying machine was patented. Subsequently smoke free beers became dominant and smoked beer turned into a rare specialty. Only in Bamberg the traditional smoke kiln was preserved continuously until today: At Schlenkerla the open fire still burns in the maltings.
