Schilling Beer Co. Landbier

Pale Lager 4.2 º
This Franconian-inspired Landbier presents a unique agrarian profile within the light-bodied framework of an American Lager. Brewed with spelt, it offers a distinctive graininess that moves beyond simple malt toward notes of toasted hay and a refined hazelnut-like character. A rare, revived Weihenstephan yeast strain contributes delicate, unexpected nuances of strawberry, adding subtle complexity to a clean fermentation profile. Crisp and exceptionally well-attenuated, the beer balances a light grainy sweetness with a rustic, dry finish. It is a refreshing, light-bodied lager that elevates the category through its heritage ingredients and expressive yet highly drinkable yeast character.
Appearance. SRM 2-3. Very pale straw to light gold. Brilliant clarity. White, frothy head with moderate persistence and light lacing.
Aroma. Low to moderate intensity. Distinctive grainy and rustic malt aroma from the spelt, reminiscent of dried hay and toasted nuts. Subtle fruity esters, specifically strawberry, derived from the unique yeast strain. Very low floral hop notes. Clean fermentation profile with minimal sulfur.
Taste. Initial impression is crisp and grainy. Low malt sweetness featuring rustic notes of spelt and a hint of hazelnut. Hop bitterness is low, providing just enough balance. Hop flavor is very low and herbal. The mid-palate reveals a delicate strawberry fruitiness. Finishes very dry and clean with a lingering nutty grain character.
Mouthfeel. Light body. High carbonation with a noticeable carbonic bite. Very smooth and refreshing, with no perceived alcohol warmth and no astringency.
