Satan Red presents a bold, Belgian-influenced interpretation of the Irish Red Ale, pouring a brilliant, transparent ruby-red reminiscent of its fiery namesake. The sensory experience is led by a complex malt architecture featuring deep caramel sweetness and toasted malt, accented by unconventional hints of wood smoke and delicate spices. Despite its potent 8% ABV, the palate remains smooth and approachable, offering a harmony of fruity esters and fresh hop perfumes. A distinctive, light tartness cuts through the residual sugars, leading to a lingering, dry finish characterized by roasted grain and a sophisticated alcoholic warmth that defines this strong, top-fermented ale.
Appearance. Medium reddish-copper to dark ruby (14-17 SRM). Brilliant clarity. Persistent, creamy tan head with fine lacing.
Aroma. Moderate intensity with a dominant toasted malt and caramel character. Subliminal hints of peat smoke and peppery spices. Noticeable fruity esters of red apple and dried plum. Very low floral hop aroma.
Taste. Initial soft caramel and toffee sweetness. The mid-palate transitions to grainy and biscuity notes. A light, refreshing tartness balances the malt. Finishes with a touch of roasted grain dryness. Low to medium-low bitterness with lingering fruity and spicy notes.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a smooth, creamy texture. Moderate carbonation. Significant but well-integrated alcohol warmth without being harsh.
