Saltus Brewing Koop. Sua delivers an intense sensory experience typical of a Double IPA, despite its approachable strength. The profile is defined by a saturated hop presence, radiating vibrant aromas of resinous pine, zesty citrus, and ripe tropical fruits like mango. A clean, neutral malt backbone provides a supportive, grainy foundation without introducing cloying sweetness. In the glass, it shows a modern pale gold color with a prominent haze. The palate follows with high-intensity hop flavors and a firm, smooth bitterness that balances the soft malt character. It finishes crisp and dry, emphasizing lingering hop oils over alcohol, ensuring remarkable drinkability.
Appearance. Gold to light orange-copper (SRM 6-10). The pour displays a distinct haze as per modern interpretations, topped with a moderate-sized, persistent, off-white head with excellent lacing.
Aroma. Intense hop aroma featuring a complex blend of citrus zest, tropical stone fruits, and a touch of resinous pine. A low, neutral, grainy maltiness sits in the background. The fermentation profile is clean with very subtle fruity esters.
Taste. Initial impression is hop-dominant with powerful flavors of grapefruit, mango, and pine needles. The malt is soft and unobtrusive, providing a light, cracker-like base. Bitterness is firm and assertive but remains smooth and lacks harshness. Finishes medium-dry and clean with a long-lasting aftertaste of hop resins and citrus peel.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light to medium body with a smooth, soft texture. Carbonation is moderate to high, providing a refreshing mouthfeel. Alcohol warmth is very restrained and well-integrated, with no hop-derived astringency.
