Saltus Brewing Koop. Barrerilla
This American IPA captures the essence of the style with a vibrant sensory profile that prioritizes hop expression above all else. At 6.5% ABV, it presents a bold aromatic display of American hop varieties, characterized by bright citrus zest, resinous pine, and subtle tropical stone fruit. The palate is defined by a clean, grainy malt backbone that provides a sturdy foundation for the assertive bitterness. This balance ensures the hops remain the focal point from the first sip through the dryish finish. A neutral fermentation profile highlights the intricate hop oils, resulting in a crisp, refreshing, and decidedly hoppy pale ale experience.
Appearance. Ranging from medium gold to light reddish-amber (6–10 SRM). It features a medium-sized, white to off-white head with good persistence and light lacing, maintaining a clear to brilliant level of clarity.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma featuring classic American hop characteristics of grapefruit, pine resin, and light floral notes. A low, clean, grainy-sweet maltiness supports the hops without competing. The fermentation profile is very clean with negligible esters.
Taste. Initial impression is a sharp, clean hop impact followed by a medium-high bitterness. Flavors of citrus and pine dominate, supported by a low to medium-low grainy malt profile with minimal toast. The finish is dry to medium-dry with a lingering, clean, hoppy aftertaste and no harshness.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light to medium body with a smooth texture. Carbonation is medium-high, providing a crisp mouthfeel. A very light, smooth alcohol warmth is present but well-integrated.
