The Void is an opulent Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer, presenting a deep, midnight profile born from a decadent Stout base. Utilizing a heavy charge of oats and dark specialty grains, it creates a velvety canvas for layers of sensory complexity. Rich cacao and sweet vanilla intertwine with the robust, roasty depth of whisky-infused coffee beans from local roasters Iron and Fire. This collaboration with Neon Raptor balances intense dark chocolate notes with a lingering, charred sweetness and a hint of spirituous warmth. The result is a full-bodied, comforting treat that emphasizes a harmonious fusion of adjuncts without losing its foundational roasted malt character.
Appearance. Jet black and opaque (SRM 40); topped with a thick, creamy, mocha-colored head that exhibits excellent retention and leaves dense lacing on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity; dominant aromas of freshly roasted coffee and dark chocolate (cacao) are layered over a rich, toasted malt base. Distinctive sweet vanilla bean notes complement a subtle oaky and spirit-like whisky nuance. Hop aroma is absent, allowing the specialty ingredients to lead.
Taste. Initial impression is rich and indulgent. Deep flavors of bittersweet cacao and espresso are prominent, supported by a velvety malt backbone featuring toasted bread and dark grain. Mouthfeel. Medium-full to full body with a thick, velvety texture derived from the heavy use of oats. Carbonation is moderate and smooth. Despite the moderate ABV, there is a gentle, well-integrated warmth that enhances the decadent character of the beer.
