Appearance. Jet black and completely opaque (40+ SRM). Pours with a thick, deep tan head that shows moderate to low retention, common for the style's high gravity, leaving oily legs on the glass surface.
Aroma. High intensity with a rich blend of roasted coffee and bittersweet chocolate. The bourbon barrel influence is prominent, contributing aromatic layers of vanilla bean, toasted oak, and a hint of coconut. Secondary notes of dark fruit esters, specifically raisins and prunes, meld with a clean, warming alcohol presence.
Taste. An initial explosion of concentrated dark malts, featuring espresso, burnt sugar, and cocoa. Mid-palate, the bourbon barrel character introduces sweet vanilla and woody oak tannins.
