Salcombe Brewery’s Lifesaver is an evocative Strong Bitter that pours a rich, deep chestnut hue. The sensory profile is defined by an invitingly sweet, chocolatey aroma and a substantial malt backbone, significantly bolstered by the inclusion of torrefied wheat which lends a satisfying depth and creamy body. On the palate, initial waves of toasty, bready malt transition into a firm, moderate hop bitterness characterized by traditional English notes of earth and wildflower. Appearance. Deep chestnut (17 SRM) with excellent clarity. Pours with a moderate, creamy off-white head that exhibits good retention and light lacing.
Aroma. Moderate intensity with a dominant malt character of sweet chocolate, toasted bread, and hazelnuts. Low to moderate floral and earthy hop presence. Low fruity esters reminiscent of red apple.
Taste. Initial malt sweetness features notes of chocolate and biscuit. Medium to medium-high bitterness provides a solid counterpoint to the malt.
