This complex Brett Beer showcases a masterful balance between wild fermentation and lush tropical additions. Aged for two years in port wine barrels, it opens with a vibrant bouquet of sun-ripened pineapple and fuzzy peach, layered over the deep, vinous character of dark grapes and toasted oak. The extended aging introduces a sophisticated funk, reminiscent of aged hay and leather, which intermingles with the creamy richness of coconut and fragrant vanilla. At 8.8% ABV, the warmth is well-integrated, supporting a profile that is simultaneously fruity, funky, and dry, reflecting its lengthy maturation and multifaceted ingredient list.
Appearance. Deep amber with gold highlights (12-14 SRM). Slight haze is present. Fine-beaded, off-white head with moderate retention and light lacing.
Aroma. High intensity. Primary notes of grilled pineapple and ripe peach are supported by creamy coconut and vanilla bean. The port barrel aging contributes a vinous, dark fruit character of plum and raisin alongside toasted oak. Brettanomyces presents moderate earthy funk, wet hay, and a hint of leather.
Taste. Initial impression is a burst of tropical pineapple and stone fruit peach. Mid-palate reveals coconut sweetness and a smooth vanilla roundness. The port barrel influence adds complexity with notes of red wine tannins and oak. Brettanomyces character provides a dry, earthy, and slightly funky finish. Bitterness is low, and the finish is highly attenuated, clean, and crisp.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a creamy, smooth texture from vanilla and coconut additions. Carbonation is moderate-high. A noticeable but well-integrated alcohol warmth reflects the 8.8% ABV. Low astringency and no harshness.
