S43 Brewery Kronan is a vibrant New Zealand IPA that balances modern juiciness with a traditional structural backbone. Pouring with a characteristic haze, it immediately releases a high-intensity aroma of tropical fruits and zesty citrus, characteristic of New Zealand hop varieties. The palate is defined by a lush, juicy entry that transitions into a firm, earthy bitterness, providing a complex counterpoint to the vibrant fruit profile. At 6.4% ABV, it offers a smooth, medium-bodied experience with a clean, grainy malt presence that allows the New World hop character to remain the focus through a crisp and lingering finish.
Appearance. Medium gold to light reddish-amber (7-10 SRM). Persistent, medium-sized white head with good lacing. Distinctly hazy, as per the modern interpretation of the style.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma featuring prominent New Zealand hop characteristics of tropical fruit, lime, and crushed gooseberry, layered over a distinctively earthy undertone. Low, clean, grainy maltiness provides a neutral base, while very light fruity fermentation esters complement the hop-forward presentation.
Taste. Initial impression is juicy and hop-forward, displaying flavors of passionfruit and citrus. A medium-high to high earthy bitterness emerges quickly, balancing the fruitiness. Low grainy malt flavors with a hint of toast support the mid-palate. The finish is medium-dry and clean, with a lingering hoppy and bitter aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, slightly creamy texture. Carbonation is moderate to high, providing a crisp bite. A very light, smooth alcohol warmth is present but well-integrated, with no harshness or astringency.

As the weather is warming we’re ready for another refreshing, hazy NZ IPA. Hopped liberally with 5 different hops, all hailing from the southern hemisphere. You’re probably familiar with Motueka, Wai-iti, & Nelson as we often utilize these in our NZ hopped pales, but Kronan also features Rakau & Taiheke! Taiheke adds a lovely bright, citrus and lime zest note, and Rakau is known for adding huge flavours of “the whole orchard” like pear, plum and apricot. Expect all the fresh grassy and juicy elements from our typical hazy NZ IPAs but with those amazing extras from Taiheke and Rakau. Fresh, hazy, juicy, with plenty of earthy bitterness, what’s not to love.
