Solar Noon, a collaboration between Runaway Brewery and Track Brewing Co, is a masterful expression of a Czech Dark Lager. This mahogany-hued lager balances deep malt complexity with refreshing drinkability. Aromas of toasted bread crust and rich caramel mingle with subtle notes of cola and dark forest berries. On the palate, expect layers of toasted nuts and a hint of sweetened coffee, derived from the use of debittered roasted malts. The finish is remarkably smooth, featuring a delicate spicy hop character from traditional Czech hops that provides a clean, balanced bitterness. At 4.6% ABV, it offers a sophisticated yet accessible session experience.
Appearance. Deep garnet to dark mahogany (25-30 SRM) with brilliant clarity. Pours with a thick, persistent, off-white to tan head that leaves delicate lacing on the glass.
Aroma. Moderate to high intensity featuring rich, toasted malt notes of bread crust, nuts, and a touch of caramel. Subtle spicy hop notes are present alongside very low fruity esters reminiscent of dried plums.
Taste. Initial malt sweetness leads to complex flavors of toasted bread, hazelnuts, and a gentle hint of milk chocolate. The bitterness is moderate and well-balanced, supported by a spicy hop character. Finishes clean with a lingering malt richness and a faint, pleasant note of cola.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, moderately creamy texture. Carbonation is moderate, and there is no perceptible alcohol warmth, contributing to a high level of drinkability without any astringency.
