This Munich Dunkel, a collaboration with Torrside Brewery, presents a masterclass in Bavarian malt depth. The profile is anchored by a profound richness of toasted bread crusts and hints of dark chocolate, likely driven by a traditional foundation of Munich malts. It balances this decadence with a clean lager fermentation and a restrained bitterness that ensures high drinkability. While deep in color, it avoids any harsh roasted or burnt notes, instead leaning into nuances of hazelnut and soft caramel. The finish is medium-dry and crisp, inviting another sip of this smooth, medium-bodied mahogany lager.
Appearance. Deep mahogany with garnet highlights (22-26 SRM). Brilliant clarity with a dense, creamy, light-tan head that exhibits excellent retention and fine lacing.
Aroma. Moderate to high intensity of toasted malt, reminiscent of fresh bread crusts and toasted nuts. Subtle undertones of milk chocolate and soft toffee are present. Clean fermentation profile with no esters or diacetyl. A very low, background herbal hop note provides a gentle balance.
Taste. Rich, deeply toasted malt flavors dominate the initial palate, echoing the aroma's bread crust and nutty character. Low to medium-low bitterness provides just enough structure to balance the malt without becoming prominent. The mid-palate reveals hints of caramel and chocolate without cloying sweetness. The finish is medium-dry and clean, leaving a lingering aftertaste of toasted grain and a touch of herbal hops. Entirely free from roasted or burnt flavors.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a smooth, slightly creamy texture. Moderate carbonation provides a soft mouthfeel without being heavy. No perceived alcohol warmth or astringency.
