This American Amber Ale presents a complex tapestry of the Empordà region, weaving local honey and Garnatxa Dolça into a rich sensory profile. Deep coppery-brown with reddish glints, it opens with a high-intensity aroma of toffee and toasted nuts driven by Munich and Special B malts, complemented by spicy Saaz and citrusy Cascade hops. Nuanced notes of cinnamon and dried plums lead into a medium-full palate where initial malty sweetness meets a persistent bitterness. The finish is remarkably long and complex, reminiscent of aged solera wines, providing a unique Mediterranean twist on a classic craft style.
Appearance. Deep copper to reddish-brown (approx. 15-20 SRM). Features a creamy, tan, consistent head with good retention and lacing. Generally clear, though the addition of wheat and honey may provide a very slight haze.
Aroma. Moderate to high intensity. Prominent malt character of toffee, caramel, and toasted nuts. This is layered with herbal, spicy notes from Saaz hops and a light floral-citrus touch from Cascade. Unique esters of plum and specialty notes of cinnamon and sweet honey are evident.
Taste. Initial impression of rich caramel and toffee sweetness from the Munich and Special B malts. The mid-palate reveals dark fruit flavors of prune and a subtle spicy character. Hop flavor is moderate, leaning toward floral and earthy notes. Bitterness is firm and balanced by the residual richness of the Garnatxa wine. The finish is long and persistent, echoing the nutty, complex oxidation of a solera-aged sweet wine.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a creamy texture enhanced by the wheat malt. Carbonation is moderate. Despite the 5% ABV, the beer offers a perceived richness and a smooth, lingering warmth on the finish without any harsh astringency.
