This modern take on a Festbier utilizes a foundation of Eraclea Pils and sustainable Pilsner Malt to create a sophisticated, toasty-doughy core. The addition of rolled oats and Chit Malt provides an unexpectedly silky, medium-bodied mouthfeel that carries subtle, integrated notes of biscuit and caramel. While the base is firmly rooted in German tradition, the use of Motueka and Noble Citra hops introduces a vibrant layer of citrus brightness and a playful tropical lift. The result is a clean, well-attenuated lager that balances the classic malt richness of a festival beer with a sneaky, spice-forward hop complexity that remains elegantly drinkable.
Appearance. Deep gold (5 SRM) with brilliant clarity. Features a persistent, dense white foam stand with fine-textured bubbles and excellent lacing.
Aroma. Moderate intensity with an emphasis on toasty-doughy aromatics and fresh bread crust from the Pilsner malts. The hop character is more assertive than traditional examples, offering citrus zest, lime, and light tropical fruit notes from the Motueka and Citra, alongside a faint herbal spice. Clean lager fermentation with no sulfur or diacetyl.
Taste. Initial impression of soft malty richness and bread dough. The mid-palate features a medium-low bitterness that perfectly balances the malt. Flavors of biscuit and very light caramel mingle with lime peel and melon hop notes. Well-attenuated and crisp finish that remains flavorful and malty without being sweet or cloying. The aftertaste is clean with a light citrus brightness.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a distinctive silky and creamy texture provided by the rolled oats and Chit malt. Moderate carbonation creates a smooth mouth-coating sensation. Alcohol warmth is negligible, contributing to a high level of drinkability.
