This potent Red India Pale Lager, a collaboration between Rocky Ridge and Range Brewing, reimagines the Vienna Lager style with a robust 7.5% ABV. A sophisticated malt base featuring toast and caramel notes provides a sturdy foundation for a modern hop profile. The use of Chinook Salvo and Amarillo Cryo introduces deep resinous, dank, and citrus tones, while the addition of El Dorado CGX and Australian Eclipse T90 contributes an intense explosion of apricot and passionfruit. Despite its intensity, the beer maintains a clean lager fermentation, offering a seductive balance between rich specialty malts and vibrant, tropical hop character.
Appearance. Light reddish amber to copper in color (12-15 SRM). It displays brilliant clarity and is topped by a large, persistent, off-white head with fine lacing.
Aroma. High intensity aroma featuring a toasty, bready malt richness. The hop character is prominent and modern, displaying layers of dank resin, bright citrus, and distinct notes of apricot and passionfruit. Clean fermentation profile without esters or diacetyl.
Taste. Initial impression is of soft, elegant malt complexity with toasty highlights and a hint of caramel. This is quickly met by a firm hop bitterness and flavors of tropical stone fruit, citrus, and dank herbs. The finish is relatively dry and smooth, with a lingering interplay of rich malt and assertive hop bitterness.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a gentle creaminess and smooth texture. Carbonation is moderate. A light, well-integrated alcohol warmth is present, reflecting the 7.5% ABV, without any harshness or astringency.
