Imperial IPA 10 º
This collaborative Double IPA between Rocky Ridge and Fox Friday delivers an intense sensory experience, pushing boundaries with an extreme 51g/L hop load. It offers a modern interpretation of the Double IPA, utilizing old-school hops to produce a profile defined by pungent resin, sticky pine, and bright grapefruit zest. Despite the robust 10% ABV, the beer maintains high drinkability with a clean, neutral malt backbone and a remarkably dry finish. The sensory journey is dominated by massive hop saturation that provides instant gratification through complex layers of citrus and forest-like aromatics, balanced by a firm, lingering bitterness and well-integrated warmth.
Appearance. Gold to deep orange (SRM 8-12) with a slight haze likely resulting from the extreme hop saturation. Features a persistent, dense, off-white head with excellent lacing.
Aroma. Intense hop-forward aroma featuring prominent notes of resinous pine, grapefruit peel, and spicy floral undertones. A neutral, grainy malt presence remains in the background with a clean, well-integrated alcohol warmth and very low fruity esters.
Taste. Initial impression is of assertive, complex hop flavors dominated by resin, pine needles, and citrus pith. Bitterness is very high but clean, avoiding harshness despite the significant hop volume. A soft, low-intensity malt character provides a brief supportive foundation before finishing dry with a long, hoppy, and bitter aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, slightly oily texture from the heavy hop oils. Carbonation is moderate to high, providing a crispness that balances the 10% ABV. A noticeable, warming alcohol presence is present but smooth and devoid of solvent notes.
