Rock City Brewing Golden Dragon
Golden Dragon is a bold and expressive Double IPA that showcases the farm-to-glass vibrancy of Slovenian Styrian Dragon hops. The sensory experience is led by an intense, juicy surge of tropical fruit and bright citrus, underscored by delicate floral notes and a hint of fresh berries typical of this unique hop variety. Despite its 7.8% ABV, the profile remains exceptionally drinkable, balancing a firm but smooth bitterness against a clean, neutral malt backbone. This collaboration delivers a refined fiery character that resolves into a crisp, lingering finish, perfectly taming the hop's potency into a refreshing, aromatically complex ale.
Appearance. Deep gold to light orange-copper (SRM 7-9) with good clarity and a moderate-sized, persistent off-white head that leaves consistent lacing.
Aroma. Intense hop-forward bouquet featuring prominent notes of grapefruit, passion fruit, and wild berries. A subtle floral perfume and spicy undertone from the Styrian Dragon hops are supported by a clean, grainy, cracker-like malt scent. Fermentation is neutral with a very light, smooth alcohol note.
Taste. Initial impression is a burst of juicy tropical fruit and lemon zest. The flavor follows the aroma with significant berry and floral complexity. Bitterness is firm and moderately high but lacks any harsh edge. A soft, supportive malt character provides structure without sweetness. The finish is medium-dry and clean, leaving a lingering hop resin and citrus aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, velvety texture. Carbonation is moderate-high, providing a lively prickle on the palate. A restrained, well-integrated alcohol warmth is present, reflecting its strength without becoming solventy.
