La Carretta presents as a classic Altbier, pouring a brilliant deep copper with a thick, creamy off-white head. The sensory journey begins with a rich, malty bouquet of toasted bread crusts and subtle nutty undertones, complemented by a low, spicy hop presence. On the palate, a firm bitterness balances the robust malt core, where notes of caramel and toasted grain dominate. The fermentation character is exceptionally clean, leading to a smooth, medium body and a crisp, dry finish. It is a well-attenuated and characterful amber ale that balances intensity with high drinkability, staying true to the traditional copper-hued heritage of the style.
Appearance. Deep copper to bronze-orange (13-17 SRM) with brilliant clarity. Features a thick, creamy, long-lasting off-white head with excellent retention.
Aroma. Moderate to moderately-high malt intensity characterized by baked bread and toasted crusts. Low spicy and floral hop notes provide a delicate counterpoint. Fermentation is very clean with no significant esters or phenols.
Taste. Initial malt richness featuring toasted grain and light caramel nuances. This is quickly met by a firm, assertive bitterness that persists into the finish. Hop flavors are low and spicy. The balance is bitter but well-supported by the malt backbone, finishing dry and clean without harshness.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, velvety texture. Carbonation is medium-high, providing a lively mouthfeel. No detectable alcohol warmth or astringency.
