Barrelborn is an immense Imperial Stout, crafted by Ritual Lab and Moksa, showcasing the profound impact of 24 months in Cognac and Bourbon barrels. Its profile is dominated by layers of bittersweet chocolate and espresso-like roast, seamlessly integrated with the spirituous elegance of French oak and the sweet vanilla-caramel of American oak. The extended aging tames the massive 15% ABV into a sophisticated warmth. Expect deep dried fruit notes of raisin and fig alongside vinous Cognac undertones. This is a viscous, chewy experience where charred wood tannins balance the residual malt sweetness for a long, harmonious, and decadent finish.

Appearance. Jet black and completely opaque. Pours with a thick, deep tan head that shows low to moderate retention due to high alcohol content. Pronounced viscosity is evident through heavy legs clinging to the glass.

Aroma. High intensity with a complex blend of dark chocolate, roasted espresso, and black licorice. The barrel aging contributes strong notes of vanilla, toasted oak, and caramel from the Bourbon, alongside vinous, grape-like esters and floral spirit notes from the Cognac. Secondary aromas of prunes and dried figs are present.

Taste. Initial impression is rich and intensely malty with flavors of cocoa powder, burnt grain, and molasses. Mid-palate reveals a sophisticated interplay between sweet Bourbon-driven vanilla and the more elegant, fruity warmth of Cognac. Hop bitterness is firm but balanced by significant residual sugar. The finish is long and warming with lingering notes of charred oak and dark fruit.

Mouthfeel. Very full-bodied, viscous, and chewy with a velvety, luscious texture. Carbonation is low, enhancing the beer's weight. A significant and smooth alcohol warmth is present throughout but remains well-integrated rather than sharp.
