Rigg & Furrow’s King Coal is a robust American Stout that bridges the gap between industrial darkness and woodland smoke. The sensory experience is dominated by a heavy roast profile reminiscent of espresso and bittersweet chocolate, amplified by the distinct addition of Beech smoked malt which contributes a savory, woody depth. Resinous American hops cut through the rich malt base, providing a firm bitterness. At 6% ABV, it maintains a substantial presence without becoming overbearing, finishing with a lingering campfire note and a clean, dry roasted quality that honors its namesake.
Appearance. Jet black and opaque (SRM 35–40) with a dense, persistent light-brown head that leaves significant lacing.
Aroma. High intensity roast with dominant notes of dark chocolate and charred coffee beans. The Beech smoked malt adds a medium-high aromatic layer of savory, woody smoke. Low but noticeable resinous hop character and faint dark fruit esters.
