This classic Dark Mild is a quintessential British session ale, delivering a complex sensory experience at an approachable 3.8% ABV. The profile is anchored by a rich, malt-forward core, evoking the comforting scent and flavor of freshly baked brown bread. Gently hopped with Fuggles, the beer possesses a delicate earthy and floral counterpoint that never overshadows the malt. Layers of dried fruits, such as raisins and dates, add a subtle sweetness and depth. It remains exceptionally drinkable, balancing its darker malt character with a soft, smooth texture and a clean, lightly sweet finish typical of the style.
Appearance. Deep copper to dark mahogany in color (14–25 SRM). Displays good clarity with a low to moderate tan-colored head that may show moderate to poor retention.
Aroma. Moderate malt intensity featuring prominent notes of toasted brown bread, light caramel, and a hint of chocolate. Low fruity esters reminiscent of dried fruits like raisins. Very low earthy hop aroma from the Fuggles addition.
Taste. Initial impression is malty and slightly sweet, leading into flavors of toasted grain, brown bread, and subtle dark fruit. Very low to moderate bitterness provides just enough balance to prevent cloying. The Fuggles hops contribute a faint earthy flavor. The finish is off-dry and clean, with a lingering bready malt aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light body with a smooth, almost creamy texture. Carbonation is low to medium-low. No alcohol warmth and no noticeable astringency.
