Reptilian Apokalypse is a formidable Imperial Stout that commands attention with its pitch-black intensity and viscous pour. At 11% ABV, it presents a rich sensory tapestry woven with deep roasted grains and decadent dark chocolate. The palate is defined by bold notes of mocha and freshly roasted coffee, reflecting its award-winning craftsmanship. While the malt character is assertive and dark, it maintains a harmonious balance with a firm bitterness and a velvety, full-bodied mouthfeel. Subtle dark fruit esters emerge in the mid-palate, leading into a long, warming finish that showcases its complex, well-integrated alcohol strength and lingering bittersweet roast.
Appearance. Jet black and completely opaque (SRM 40+). It pours with a thick, dense, dark tan head that exhibits moderate retention and leaves significant lacing. Visible viscosity is apparent in the glass with noticeable legs due to the high alcohol content.
Aroma. High intensity with dominant aromas of roasted coffee, bittersweet chocolate, and dark moka. Secondary notes include hints of black licorice and lightly burnt grain. Low but present esters suggest dried plums or raisins. Hop aroma is very low, allowing the complex malt and moderate alcohol warmth to lead.
Taste. Initial impression is intensely malty and rich. Deep flavors of dark chocolate, espresso, and roasted cocoa beans dominate. Medium-high bitterness provides a necessary counterpoint to the heavy malt sugars. Mid-palate reveals subtle notes of caramel and dark fruit. The finish is long and bittersweet, lingering with roast and a smooth, sophisticated alcohol warmth.
Mouthfeel. Full to very full-bodied with a chewy, luscious, and velvety texture. Carbonation is low to moderate. A distinct, gentle warmth is felt in the throat, consistent with its 11% ABV, but it remains well-integrated without being harsh or solventy.
