Redwillow Sleepless is a vibrant Rye IPA that masterfully balances a robust malt backbone with assertive modern hopping. The aroma is led by the distinctive white grape and gooseberry notes of Nelson Sauvin, complemented by the citrusy punch of Amarillo. Beneath the fruit, a complex grain bill featuring Rye malt offers a peppery spice that cuts through rich toffee and caramel sweetness. On the palate, a tightrope walk continues as chewy malt flavors give way to a wave of tropical fruit. The experience concludes with a long, clean, and satisfying bitterness that lingers alongside a hint of rustic grain character.
Appearance.Deep copper-red to dark amber in color with excellent clarity. It supports a moderate-sized, persistent light tan head with good lacing.
Aroma.Moderate to high hop aroma featuring passion fruit, white wine, and citrus characters. The malt presents a supportive toffee and toasted bread profile, accented by a distinctive peppery and spicy quality derived from the rye. Clean fermentation profile with no significant esters.
Taste.Initial flavors of toffee and biscuit are quickly overtaken by tropical fruit and grapefruit hop notes. A medium-high bitterness is present but remains smooth, harmonizing with the earthy, spicy pepper notes of the rye. The finish is dry and clean with a lingering hoppy and slightly spicy aftertaste.
Mouthfeel.Medium body with a slight creamy slickness from the rye. Moderate carbonation provides a crisp mouth-feel, while alcohol warmth is light and well-integrated.
