This West Coast style American IPA bridges heritage and modern innovation. The foundation is built on Crisp’s Chevalier malt, which provides a distinctive marmalade-like sweetness and deep malt backbone. In the kettle, YCH 702 enriched Simcoe and Centennial hop oils deliver a saturated resinous punch. A significant dry hop addition of Chinook and Columbus adds layers of classic pine, grapefruit, and spicy earthiness. Expect a punchy, bitter profile balanced by rich toffee-orange malt notes, finishing dry and crisp. It captures the old school spirit with enhanced clarity and hop saturation, delivering a nostalgic yet technically advanced sensory experience.
Appearance. Medium gold with reddish-amber highlights (SRM 9). Brilliant clarity with a dense, creamy, persistent off-white head that leaves significant lacing on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity hop-forward aroma featuring prominent resinous pine, grapefruit pith, and black pepper. The use of hop oils enhances the citrus and tropical fruit esters. This is supported by a medium-low, rich malt character of toasted bread and orange marmalade. Clean fermentation profile with no diacetyl.
Taste. Initial impression is assertive hop bitterness. High hop flavors of resin, earthy spice, and pithy citrus dominate. The Chevalier malt provides a moderate bready sweetness and subtle marmalade flavors that provide a foil for the firm bitterness. The finish is medium-dry and crisp, with a lingering resinous and slightly toasty aftertaste. Well-balanced toward the hops.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, slightly oily texture from the hop extracts. Carbonation is medium-high, providing a crisp bite. Very low alcohol warmth is appropriate for the strength, with no astringency.
