This collaborative English IPA, crafted by RedWillow and The Kernel, celebrates heritage with a base of Chevalier malt. The malt provides a distinctive foundation of fresh bread and orange marmalade. A complex blend of Amarillo, Simcoe, Columbus, and Citra hops layers the profile with resinous pine and vibrant citrus candy notes, while First Gold adds a subtle floral nuance. The experience is defined by an old-school, dank character and an assertive, lingering bitterness. Well-attenuated and balanced, it offers a refined yet punchy sensory journey that honors craft pioneers with a deeply resinous and bready character.
Appearance. Golden to pale amber (7-9 SRM). Brilliant clarity with a moderate, persistent off-white head and fine lacing.
Aroma. Moderate-high intensity. Bready and biscuity malt notes from the Chevalier grain are layered with resinous pine, grapefruit, and citrus candy. Low floral esters and a hint of orange marmalade are present.
Taste. Initial bready malt sweetness gives way to assertive hop flavors of resin, dank pine, and citrus. Bitterness is firm and assertive, balancing the bready backbone. Finish is dry and clean with a lingering, pleasant hoppy bitterness and light mineral notes.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, non-astringent texture. Moderate-high carbonation provides a crisp sensation. Alcohol warmth is very low and well-integrated.
