This Imperial Porter presents a luxurious sensory experience, defined by a year of maturation in bourbon barrels. Deep layers of dark chocolate and toasted Maris Otter malts provide a robust foundation for the intense, freshly roasted coffee character. The twelve-month aging process infuses the profile with rich bourbon notes of aromatic vanilla, toasted oak, and smooth caramel. On the palate, the interplay between the bitter espresso roast and the sweet spirituous warmth creates a complex, velvety balance. The result is a sophisticated, full-bodied Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer where the barrel character and coffee additions enhance rather than overshadow the base beer's integrity.
Appearance. Opaque deep ebony with mahogany highlights at the edges. Supports a persistent, creamy tan head with fine lacing that clings to the glass as it recedes.
Aroma. High intensity aroma featuring a blend of dark-roasted grains, espresso beans, and prominent bourbon-derived vanilla. Underlying notes of toasted oak, dark chocolate, and subtle dark fruit esters are present, with hop aroma remaining very low to allow the coffee and barrel to dominate.
Taste. Initial rich impression of bittersweet chocolate and cold-brew coffee. The mid-palate reveals layers of caramel, charred oak, and a smooth bourbon sweetness. Malt complexity is high, leaning towards toasted bread and black walnuts. Bitterness is moderate, derived from both hops and roasted grains, leading to a long, warming, and slightly dry finish.
