ReCraft Mentor IV is a profound homage to the Polish tradition of the Baltic Porter, characterized by its substantial 10.1% ABV and luxurious depth. The sensory journey begins with an intense, rich maltiness, layering dark chocolate, molasses, and toasted hazelnut. High-strength esters contribute a sophisticated dried fruit profile of raisins, prunes, and black cherries, complemented by a smooth, Port-like alcohol warmth. Despite its initial malty sweetness, the palate evolves into a clean, dryish finish accented by roasted coffee and licorice. It is an expertly crafted, full-bodied example that balances intense complexity with the deceptive smoothness typical of the style's best Polish iterations.
Appearance. Opaque dark brown with deep reddish-copper highlights when held to the light. It features a thick, persistent, tan-colored head with excellent retention and lacing.
Aroma. High intensity of rich malt including notes of caramel, toffee, and dark chocolate. A complex ester profile provides scents of prunes, raisins, and cherries, accompanied by a clean, warming, vinous alcohol presence. No hop aroma; no burnt or acrid notes.
Taste. Richly malty and sweet initial impression with flavors of molasses, nuts, and licorice. A smooth, Schwarzbier-like roasted character provides depth without being burnt. Mid-palate esters of dried dark fruits lead to a dryish finish. Bitterness is medium-low, just enough to balance the malt, leaving a lingering aftertaste of roasted coffee and dark fruit.
