This Chardonnay Sour is an elegant expression of Grape Ale, co-fermented with premium Chardonnay grapes from Renzaglia. It presents an inviting bouquet of vibrant citrus and ripe yellow fruits, like peach and melon, seamlessly integrated with a delicate undercurrent of vanilla and toasted oak. While refreshing, it maintains a surprisingly creamy, full-bodied presence on the palate, deviating from the style’s typical lightness. The acidity is finely balanced, providing a bright, tart counterpoint to the subtle malt sweetness, while the oak adds structural complexity. It resolves with a clean, lingering finish that highlights the sophisticated interplay between fruit and fermentation.
Appearance. Pale golden (5 SRM) with brilliant clarity. Pours with a fine-textured, bright white head that shows moderate retention and leaves light lacing on the glass.
Aroma. Moderate to high intensity. Distinctive Chardonnay grape aromatics lead with notes of lemon zest and white peach. These are layered over a soft, bready malt base with sophisticated nuances of vanilla bean and toasted oak. Fermentation character is clean, free of heavy esters or phenols.
Taste. Initial impression is a bright, tangy acidity. Flavors of yellow apple and grapefruit dominate the mid-palate, supported by a subtle, honeyed malt foundation. Hop bitterness is very low, allowing the tartness and grape character to shine. Secondary notes of oak and spice add depth, leading to a crisp, dry, and elegant finish.
